The current economic crisis in Sri Lanka has far reaching consequences for women and girls’ health including their menstrual hygiene, sexual and re-productive health services. In crisis hit Sri Lanka period poverty which was already a taboo subject due to social stigma becomes an area most impacted but with least amount of attention paid.

According to the studies done the absolute household period poverty is believed to be a staggering 50% and on rural areas this no can increase with high risk of unhealthy hygienic practices making women venerable.
